Vigilance raids school headmaster with assets over Rs 1 crore

Vigilance officials in Odisha today found assets worth over Rs 1 crore in possession of a primary school headmaster.

The vigilance sleuths today launched simultaneous raids at different locations associated with Pramod Kumar Samal, Headmaster of Kudamusa Primary School in Sundargarh district, an official release said.

"The total assets of Samal detected so far have been calculated as Rs 1,00,20,214," the release said, adding the amount may increase as one bank locker in a cooperative bank has not yet been opened.

The raids were conducted following allegations on Samal of acquisition and possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
 

The raids were held at the headmaster's two-storey house at Jhirpani in Rourkela, parental house at Kapila village in Jajpur district, father-in-law's house at Arilo village under Binjharpur police station area and his quarter at Rourkela.

The properties detected in possession of the headmaster and his family members included the double-storied house (Rs 48,64,448), one single-storey building (Rs 7 lakh), two plots located in Mouza Sundarpada, Bhubaneswar (Rs 3,00,000), investment in insurance companies (Rs 10 lakh), deposit in different banks (Rs 13,53,000).

Other items included house hold articles such as electrical gadgets (Rs 3,18,000), cash (Rs 1.22 lakh), deposits in post office (Rs 4,46,281), an MUV (Rs 8,78,305) and a two-wheeler (Rs 36,750), the release said.

The vigilance department said Samal was appointed as an assistant teacher in 1982 and promoted to the rank of the headmaster in 1998.
