DMDK leader Vijayakanth today suggested forming a peace committee to resolve the dispute between the fishermen of the hamlets of Gummidipoondi and Ponneri taluks over the fishing rights.
In a statement here, he said more than 100 houses and 60 boats had been reportedly damaged in clashes between the the fishermen from these taluks recently.
The government should arrange for providing relief to the fishermen who had lost their boats. The government also should take steps to prevent recurrence of such clashes and help them resume fishing, he said.
