The law and order situation in both Vijayawada city as well as Krishna district after the announcement of a separate Telangana state decision today is peaceful and under control, the police said.

Vijayawada Police Commissioner B Srinivasulu told PTI that there has been no untoward incident so far. The police are continuously monitoring the situation and patrolling has been intensified, he said.

Police pickets have been posted at all important places to check movements of anti-social elements. Additional central forces have also arrived to support the local police, he said.

He said central forces have been stationed in the city.

The situation is totally calm and peaceful in Krishna distict, though at Nuziveed and Hanuman Junction, students staged a 'rasta roko' agitation blocking roads for a few minutes but dispersed peacefully later.

However, Samaikhyandhra activists, who support a "united" Andhra Pradesh, issued a bandh call on Wednesday against the Telangana statehood decision by Congress.

On the other hand, political leaders and particularly opposition parties like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and YSR Congress have been fully concentrating on the third phase of the ongoing panchayat elections due for Wednesday, in the Gudivada and Machilipatnam revenue divisions.
