Taking exception to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam's statement that opposition parties were trying to sully his government's image, DMDK founder leader Vijayakant today asked to focus on maintaining law and order in the state rather than blaming others.

"Rather than blaming the opposition parties, Chief Minister Panneerselvam should take steps to allay fears of the people by maintaining law and order," he said.

Vijayakant, also the Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly, was responding to Panneerselvam's charge yesterday that opposition parties were working with an intention to bring a bad name to the AIADMK Government by making false allegations on law and order in the wake of party supremo J Jayalalithaa's conviction in a graft case.

The actor-turned politician alleged that efforts were being made to divert a legal matter -- the Bangalore court sentencing Jayalalithaa to four years in jail, to a Tamil versus Kannadiga issue and warned against such attempts.
