Village devp officer held for taking Rs 50,000 bribe

A village development officer was arrested for allegedly accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe from a complainant in Navi Mumbai township of Thane district, ACB said today.

Ramkrishna G Mhatre (43), the development officer at Kalamboli village grampanchayat in Kharghar area of Navi Mumbai, had allegedly demanded Rs one lakh from a contractor for clearing his bills for works done at the grampanchayat, ACB DSP Datta Karale said.

Later, the deal was settled at Rs 50,000.

The contractor filed a complaint with the Navi Mumbai unit of Thane ACB which laid a trap and caught Mhatre in his office while he was accepting the bribe yesterday, he said.
 

Offences were registered at a local police station against the accused under sections 7,13(1)(d) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, the ACB added.
