The Punjab government today authorised the village Panchayats to disburse pensions and other financial assistance to the beneficiaries in rural areas.
According to a notification issued here today, the village Panchayats would now pay out the pensions and other financial assistance to the beneficiaries belonging to the rural areas, an official spokesperson said here.
The pensions and other financial assistances were being disbursed through banks till now, he said.

Punjab government has also issued directions to the District Development and Panchayats officers to immediately appoint administrative officers especially where the Panchayats were unable to pay the pensions and other financial aid to the beneficiaries, he said.
The officers have also been asked to ensure the disbursal within a week of the receipt of the funds for this purpose, the Spokesperson said.
