A village sarpanch was killedby suspected Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, police said today.
Kunwar Singh Gota (aged around 40), sarpanch of Mura village under Korar police station limits, was allegedly shot deadat his native place last night, a senior police official told PTI.
As per preliminary information, the victim was picked up by some armedmen from his house in Mura, located around 300 kms from the state capital.

Prima facie, it appears that the crime was committed by Naxals but it was yet to be verified, he said.
Security forces were rushed to the village, which is located deep inside the forest and the body was brought to Korar for post-mortem, he said.
A case has been registered in this connection, the official said, adding that efforts were on to trace the assailants.
