Students of government schools in remote villages of Hoshiarpur celebrated New Year's eve by visiting the Legislative Assembly, Civil Secretariat and High Court building.

The children, some of whom were from underprivileged sections of society, were also taken to Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake and other landmarks of the city.

The students were informed about the way Houses operate and how MLAs perform their vital duties, Rajya Sabha MP Avinash Rai Khanna, who organised the tour, said.

"Since rural students of Punjab hardly get to know the important places of power in Chandigarh, I felt they must have their fair share of opportunity to see the actual places," Khanna said.
