Village talathi booked for seeking Rs 10 lakh bribe

A case has been registered against a talathi (local revenue official), who allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from a villager for a land related work, ACB officials said today.

The accused has been identified as Sachin Jadhav, who a talathi of Kaman village near Vasai in neighbouring Palghar district.

Deputy Superintendent of Police ACB Thane unit Sanjay Mohite said in an official release that the complainant after the death of his grandfather, wanted his and his three brothers' names to be added in the 7x12 extract of the land records.

"In October 2015, the complainant had approached the local office, where Jadhav made a demand of Rs 10 lakh to carry out the change in the records," the release said.
 

The complainant then approached the Thane unit of ACB with the complaint against the talathi, following which the ACB carried out the probe.

Following a probe into the issue, the ACB registered an offence against the accused with the Waliv police station under section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
