Villager hurt in gun-battle between security forces, Naxals

A villager in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh was injured in a gun-battle between security forces and Naxals, police said today.

The encounter took place yesterday after which one Maan Singh was found with bullet injuries on his waist near Kamteda village under Koyalibeda police station limits, Kanker Additional Superintendent of Police Jaiprakash Badhai told PTI.

A Maoist deputy commander was killed in the gunfight and he was today identified as Jaisingh Kunjam, the police officer said.

Singh, a native of Kamteda, was provided preliminary treatment at Kanker town and later shifted to Raipur where he is under observation at a private hospital, he said.
 

A joint team of the Special Task Force (STF), the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Border Security Force (BSF) took part in the encounter.

Singh was found lying injured when the security personnel were inspecting the encounter spot located deep in the forest, Badhai said.

The exact age of the injured is not yet known, the police officer said.

An investigation is on to ascertain what Singh was doing in the forest along with Naxals, he said.
