One villager was injured when Pakistan violated ceasefire for the fourth consecutive day today by resorting to heavy firing and mortar shelling on forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district, forcing Indian troops to retaliate.

Pakistani troops fired mortar bombs and used automatic weapons to target forward posts along LoC in Balakote sector of Poonch district this morning, officials said.

"Our side retaliated appropriately but no casualty or damage was reported," an Army officer said.

The firing was going on when last reports came in from the area, they said.

In the shelling, a civilian, Mohmmad Ashraf (24), was injured and some cattle were killed in Behrooti village, they said, adding, the youth has been hospitalised.

Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire 23 times in September this year. This is fourth day of ceasefire violation by Pakistan along LoC in Poonch since September 15.

On Sunday, BSF officer ASI Sohan was killed in shelling when Pakistan targeted their post in Manjakotr sector along LoC in Rajouri district.
