A villager was killed by suspected Maoists in Kalimela area of Odisha's Malkangiri district on the suspicion of being a police informer, police said today.

District Superintendent of Police Mitrabhanu Mohapatra said the 32-year-old man, who ran a cycle repair shop at Chitrangpalli village haat, was taken away by a group of suspected ultras last evening.

Later, his body was found in a pool of blood with his throat slit along the road a little distance away from the haat.

A hand written letter found from the spot claimed that CPI(Maoist) had decided to kill the man as he was functioning as a police informer, he said.

Investigation is on and security had been strengthened in the area after the incident, police said.
