Naxals allegedly killed a revenue department employee by slitting his throat with a sharp weapon near Akabeda village in Narayanpur district, police said today.

The victim was identified as Somaru Gota (45), a police officials told PTI over phone.

"Last night, around 40 armed Naxals stormed into Gota's house in Kodkanar and took him into the forest area. This morning, Akabeda villagers informed the police that a body was lying near their village," the officials said.

Police teams were rushed to the spot and the body was recovered.

According to police, a unit of the Chhattisgarh Sashastra Bal has recently been set up near Akabeda village in Abujhmad area and as per the demand of the local residents, a survey of land has been launched. However, the naxals are opposing the move. Police suspect that Gota's murder was a fallout of that.

Police teams have been sent to catch the ultras involved in the crime.
