Residents of Thirunagari village in the district today hoisted black flags atop their houses, opposing Oil and Natural Gas Commission's drilling operations in the area.
Hundreds of people, including a large number of women, later took out a rally protesting the ONGC's operations.
Jayaraman, convenor of the movement against Methane exploration in the Cauvery delta, said the people were against the operations.
Villagers expressed apprehension that it would result in contamination of ground water besides causing severe environmental degradation.
