Alleging that the truck driver drove recklessly after chased by the District Transport Officer Mukesh Prasad to collect illegal money, the villagers assaulted Prasad before setting afire his vehicle, police said.
The DTO ran for life before taking shelter in a house.
The villagers also chased away the policemen who had reached the spot to pacify the agitators demanding action against the DTO, police said.
