Villagers attack police station in Mathura, get accused freed

Around three dozen villagers, led by their pradhan, allegedly attacked Mant police station in the district, manhandled police personnel and got a man released from their custody, police said today.

The incident happened yesterday when police brought Ramesh, son of Jeevan Lal--Pradhan of village Raipur, to Naujhil police station in the district for interrogation in a case.

"Lal, along with nearly three dozen villagers, attacked Mat police station and got his released from their custody," Dy SP Mahaban Surendra Singh Yadav said.

Ramesh was brought to Mat police station after Naujhil police station got information that villagers were coming to attack and get the man released.
 

Ramesh was immediately shifted to Mant police station, there were only few policemen in Naujhil police station as most of them were deployed in Barsana for Holi duty, police said.

At Mant police station, the Pradhan succeeded in getting his son released after allegedly manhandling the handful of policemen.

An FIR has been registered against Pradhan and others, the police said.
