Villagers blame three for practicising witchcraft, beat them

A Adivasi couple and another person were beaten up by people of the same community today for allegedly "practicising witchcraft" in upper Assam's Sibsagar district, police sources said.

Today around 7.30 AM, three persons - Chura Munda (50), his wife Roki Munda (45) and Puta Munda (50) of Gowla Pathar Naga adi village under Sonari Police Station of Sivasagar district were reportedly beaten up for practicing witchcraft in the village, the sources said.

Officer-in-Charge of Sonari Police Station rushed to the village and rescued the victims and safely brought them to the police station, they said adding they were medically examined and a case was registered.
 

Efforts were on to apprehend the culprits, the police sources added.
