The district administration today prevented villagers from stopping work on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway here, following which the protesters blocked the Delhi-Howrah line at the Bodaki Railway Station.
The Additional District Magistrate (ADM), Ghanshyam, reached the site along with police personnel and dispersed the protesters.
The agitating villagers, who were demanding higher financial compensation for their lands, were detained and sent to the police line, but later released, he said.
Nearly 50 protesters, including a farmers' body leader, was detained, the officer said.
