Traffic was affected for several hours on Chhatta-Govardhan route as some land-grabbers tried to take over the land where the body of a youth who was recently shot dead by a gang of criminals was cremated.

The blockade was lifted only after police assured the villagers that a memorial stone for Rajveer (20) would be laid on June 14 at the spot where he had been cremated.

Rajveer was cremated on June 6 in Sankhi Village of Chhatta Tahsil after he died due to gun-shot that he received during an attempt to nab a group of criminals.

"Full honours would be given to Rajveer who was shot dead by outlaws when he tried to nab them," Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ram Singh Gautam said.

Some land-grabbers had removed the ashes of Rajveer from the spot where he had been cremated, following which villagers staged their protest.

A case has been registered against the five persons who removed the ashes and tried to grab the land, police said.
