The protesters, under the aegis of Rashtriya Kishan Brigade, blocked the road at Solar Marg near Bharat Electronic Limited for a few hours leading to traffic jams, police said.

They later held a protest in front of the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam.

Rashtriya Kishan Brigade secretary Farman Khan said, "There is no potable water supply in Maharajpur, Jhandapur, Bhauvapur, Sahibabad, Prahladgarhi and KarKar Model villages...Ironically the land in the area was acquired for development by the state government under the Land Acquisition Act...This is injustice to the villagers."

The drinking water pipeline in Maharajpur village was destroyed six months back by Utter Pradesh Housing and Development Board during widening of the road at Solar Marg.

Last week, the villagers had appealed to Ghaziabad District Magistrate Archna Upadhya to restore the pipeline but no action has been taken, a protester said.

In Sahibabad and KarKar Model villages, muddy water are being supplied in the name of potable water, Khan said.

"Tomorrow we will demonstrate in front of the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam Head Quarters," he said.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam junior engineer Rakesh Srivastava said, "The pipe line which was damaged will be set up again." But he did not specify any time period.

He said a separate plan was being formulated for supply of potable water in these six villages.
