"The Assam government has opposed to our plan to include disputed villages at Block I and II under the RGGVY scheme of the Government of India," Mondal said.
Earlier, the Shillong bench of the Gauhati High Court had sought a clarification from both the states as to why the services were denied to the villagers living at the edge of both the states.
A PIL filed in 2009 said that at least 11 villages which are under Umsning Community and Rural Development Block under Meghalaya's Ri-Bhoi district, were denied of the scheme.
All these villages were part of the several villages categorised as beneficiaries of the RGGVY scheme by the then Meghalaya State Electricity Board (MeSEB), which was entrusted with the responsibility of execution of electrification of villages and rural households in all the districts of Meghalaya.
Assam and Meghalaya have 12 areas of differences in which high level talks are on to claim and counter claim on these areas.
Under the scheme, Meghalaya plans to light up 1,14,507 BPL households out of which 5105 villages were electrified and only 1902 were left to be electrified villages within this year, Mondal said.
The RGGVY scheme was initiated by the Union Ministry of Power in April 2005 to provide electricity for all rural households, including free electricity connections to families living below the poverty line, in five years.
