Dismayed over not being alloted a polling centre in their village for the Panchayat polls, residents of Gangeru in Shamli district have threatened to boycott the local elections.

In a panchayat convened yesterday, villagers threatened to boycott the panchayat polls in protest against setting up of a polling centre in another village Gharishayam, said Rauf Hasan, a resident of the village.

Another resident, Dr Ahsan, informed that their demand for a polling booth to be set up in their village has not been met, leading to their decision of boycotting the polls.

Panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh are scheduled to start from October 9.
