Tension prevailed at Ravada area in Vizianagaram district today after local residents did not allow the survey of land to be conducted by officials for the proposed international airport near Bhogapuram.

A three-member team of a private consulting agency, revenue officials and some surveyors visited Ravada, which is among the eight villages chosen for the construction of green-field airport.

While the survey team was about to begin its work, the irate locals told them that they would not give their land for the airport and forced them to suspend the work.

Andhra Pradesh government has earlier said that 3,638 acres of private land would be acquired for Bhogapuram Airport project in Vizianagaram district.

The total area proposed for the airport project was 5,311 acres land, out of which, the government land was 646 acres, assigned land 979 acres and the private patta 3638 acres.
