Residents of Kralpora area in Budgam district of Kashmir today staged protest demanding removal of a CRPF unit posted for guarding minority community.

The protest broke out this morning after the residents of the locality claimed that an unidentified man, who had allegedly knocked at the door of a widow at midnight, had taken refuge in the CRPF camp, a police official said.

The protesters demanded that the CRPF personnel be removed from the area and police personnel be posted for the protection of the minority community living nearby, the official said.

As the protesters refused to disperse, police used batons to disperse them.

Later, the protesters resorted to stone pelting, prompting the police to fire tear smoke shells to restore order, the official said adding no one was injured in the incident.
