Villagers staged a protest in an attempt to resist the arrest of ten persons in Selam of Champhai district in Mizoram today prompting the police to fire teargas shells at them in order to disperse them.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Northern Range) Zorammuana told PTI that 100 armed policemen were sent to the Selam village along Mizoram-Manipur border to nab suspected arsonists who had allegedly set aflame a truck belonging to the state Environment and Forests department on Friday.
As the ten were being taken away by the police, a group of villagers including women and children, blocked the road prompting the cops to fire teargas shells, Zorammuana said.
