Residents of nearly 25 villages in and around Karamadai in the district today announced their decision to boycott the coming Lok Sabha polls, if the administration failed to solve the menace of elephants, police said.

The villagers, under a banner of Joint Action Committee, staged a demonstration in Karamadai bus stand, about 35 Kms from here and asked the administration to initiate action to protect them and their crop from the elephants, which were straying into the habitats for the last nine months.

In the last six months, five persons, including three women, were killed and 25 injured in the attack by the elephants, the villagers said.

No action has been taken in this connection despite memorandum to the District Collector and Forest Department officials, they said, adding, their life was in danger.
