The central government will supply piped water to villages where groundwater is inadequate, Union Minister Birender Singh said today.
Villages where there is no water supply and inadequate groundwater will get water from rivers through pipelines, the Minister for Sanitation and Drinking Water told reporters after addressing district officials here.
He said the Centre will expand old schemes and also launch new schemes to ensure overall development of the poor people in the country.

Singh informed that the Union government was planning separate cadre of rural and urban doctors "so that the rural population gets adequate medical services."
On the controversial Land Acquisition Bill, the Minister said that it is pro-farmer and would be presented soon in Parliament.
"As compared to the old legislation, the new bill mandates more money to farmer as compensation in case their land is acquired for development purposes," he said.
