The first round of the LIC 7th Mumbai Mayor's International Open Chess Tournament produced the biggest shock as lowly-rated Matta Vinay Kumar shocked second seeded Grandmaster Amonatov Farrukh of Tajikistan in just 22 moves from the Black side of the Centre game here today.
Minor shocks were also witnessed on boards 7 and 8 as Yashas of India held 7th seeded GM Ovetchkin Roman of Russia to a draw after a marathon game lasting 80 moves while GM Papily Vasily of Russia also had to concede draw to Atul Dahale of the host country.
Besides these two upset results, the other games ended in favour of the seeded players. On board 1, top-seeded GM Mchediishvili M of Georgia had no difficulty in putting off the challenge of Siva Mahadevan.

The players are fighting for a prize pool of 11 Lakhs in the 10-round event with a time-control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment.
The event is organised by the Venus Chess Academy under the aegis of All India Chess Federation and World Chess Federation.
