Vinayakar Chaturthi was celebrated across Tamil Nadu today with religious fervour and traditional gaiety.

People offered prayers with the clay-made idols of elephant God, besides visiting the Lord in temples.

The traditional "Kozhukattai", a sweet dish made with jaggery in keeping with the culture was offered to Lord Ganesha on the occasion.

Special prayer sessions were held at the famous Sri Karpaga Vinayaka Temple, Pillayarpatti in Sivaganga district and also at the Uchi Pillayar (Rock Fort) temple.

The celebrations also witnessed over 2,500 Ganesha ceremonial tents set up by many Hindu organisations across the state.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had yesterday extended her Vinayaka Chaturthi greetings to the people of Tamil Nadu.
