The district administration had relaxed the curfew, imposed in the district on September 28 following violence during a 48-hour bandh call by the NCHIPF, between 10 am to 3 pm during the day, official sources said.

NCHIPF supporters threw stones and clashed with police and security forces at Mahadev Tilla and Harangajao forcing police to fire rubber bullets to disperse the mob at both places. A few persons were injured during the clashes but the details were not given by the authorities.

A number of them went out into the streets at various places in Haflong town during the curfew relaxation period and burnt a bike at Kalibari Road. An autorickshaw was damaged at Gunjung areas of Haflong, the sources said.

Indefinite curfew was reimposed in the district following the incident, they said.

The Forum is demanding bifurcation of Dima Hasao district into two autonomous districts.
