In a direct attack on the Congress, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today that Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh was "embarrassing" the people of Himachal Pradesh by continuing in the post despite several allegations of corruption against him.

Addressing an election rally here, Singh said all political parties must ensure that if any leader is accused of any corruption, and there is a prima facie case against him or her, then the leader should offer his or her resignation.

"Despite several allegations of corruption, the chief minister of Himachal Pradesh continues to hold the post which is embarrassing for the people of the state," he said.

Highlighting the Narendra Modi government's seriousness in ensuring clean and corruption free governance, Singh said strong action against shell companies and business enterprises were taken and so far more than three lakh such entities were penalised.

Referring to demonetisation, the home minister said the people had accepted the decision and acknowledged the honest intentions of the government even though they had to face some difficulties.

Addressing another rally at Nachan, Singh, a senior BJP leader, said ever since the BJP formed the government at the Centre, it never allowed any discrimination against anyone.

The home minister also highlighted various development programmes being implemented by the NDA government at the Centre for the inclusive development of people.

Singh assured that the BJP government would make all-out efforts to reduce the cost of farm inputs and ensure fair prices for the farm produce.

The home minister said under no circumstances, the Modi government would compromise with the pride and honour of the country.

Being a peace-loving nation, he said, India has always looked for friendly relations with all countries but will not hesitate in retaliating if any country indulges in any sinister design directed against India.
