Singh, accopanied by Himachal Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma, said the Rs 5000-crore mono rail project could help ease traffic woes of Shimla to a great extent and sought early execution of the project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban development Mission (JNNURM).
Assuring full support for the project, Nath said the project would be the first of its kind in a hilly state and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been asked to carry out a detailed survey and prepare a feasibility report in six months.
The project envisages construction of 14-Km-long mono rail along the circular road in the first phase and another 11-km in the second phase and is slated to be completed in 2020.
However, the project is yet to take off and get statutory clearances and financial support.
