Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh will launch the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS) here tomorrow for enabling advanced and effective policing system and bringing transparency.

The Centre-funded project will help share data on crime and criminals, beside offering citizen-friendly services on real-time basis.

The project will help connect 177 sites -- 114 police stations, 13 district headquarters, 26 Sub-Divisional police offices, three police ranges headed by IPG rank officers, state crime records bureau, CID crime branch, 14 control rooms, finger print bureau, forensic science laboratory, 16 CCTNS training centres including state data centre and data recovery centre.

Talking to reporters, Director General of Police Sanjay Kumar said the new initiative was aimed at creating country- wide network to make tracking of criminals easier for purposes of investigations, crime prevention, law enforcement and other functions like traffic management, emergency responses during tragedies including thefts and road accidents and improving IT enabled tools used by the police.

"A major advantage of the project would be creation of an improved delivery service for the citizens and other stage holders by providing access to the police services, including community police schemes, registration of migrant labour and foreigner registrations.

"Once the system is launched the citizens can log-in to the web portal to know status of their complaints/FIRs," he said.

The new network which will create a comprehensive and integrated system would help ensure transparency, efficiency and effectiveness of the policing from the DGP's rank to police station levels and facilitate data sharing with other states and agencies.

IGP (Crime) Satwant Atwal Trivedi said the project and some of the scrutiny features have been developed by the state police keeping in view the specific needs and existing web portal of the police will be merged with the new network.
