Seasoned Chennai driver Vishnu Prasad won the top honours in the premier Formula BMW class of the JK Tyre Racing Championship opener at the Kari Motor Speedway here today.

In the qualifying race held earlier today, Prasad set the refurbished track ablaze with the fastest lap of 1:05.096 seconds, enough for pole position. He then made a perfect race start only to pull away from the rest of the field.

He covered the 15 laps in 16.44.861, which was a massive 11.846 seconds faster than his second placed rival, Akhil Rabindra of Karnataka (16.56.707 secs) and third placed Nayan Chatterjee of Maharashtra (16.59.429 secs).

In the Formula LGB 4 event, Kerala's Diljith Shaji of Dark Dan Racing was was unbeatable in both qualifying and race.

The Volkswagen Polo R-cup event, which has entered its fifth year, witnessed strong tussles amongst the top three drivers.

Before completing the very first lap, Karthik Tharani of Chennai, Lee Keshav Gupta of Delhi and Ansul Manoj Shah of Maharashtra were involved in an accident, forcing a race restart.

None of the three could come under the start lights in the re-start but Ansul and Keshav, who went to the pits, rejoined the race (from pit start) and claimed podium finishes. Delhi's Karminder Pal Singh somehow came in to the reckoning from way behind when the race was ran under 'yellow flag' since another car was stranded on the racing line after the first corner on lap 11.

Though, Karminder was the first to cross the finishing line, he was penalised 30 secs for 'overtaking under yellow flag'. Eventually, Angad Singh Matharoo of Punjab was elevated to first place, followed by Angul and Keshav.
