The group of 50 visually-challenged students brought out a rally from Deshapriya Park which culminated at Rabindra Sarobar where they planted medicinal plants.

Organised by the National Institute of Professionals (NIP), the event was aimed at creating awareness among students about pollution, global warming, deforestation and preservation of biodiversity.

Appreciating efforts of the children, Mita Banerjee, Commissioner of Disability, said this initiative should be an eye-opener for others.

"If a visually-challenged human being can plant a tree for the noble cause of environmental protection, there is no reason why others cannot plant and protect trees," Banerjee said after the rally.
