Visually-impaired IAS officer KG Tiwari hurt in road mishap

Visually-impaired IAS officer KG Tiwari, currently posted as district collector, was injured when his SUV collided with a truck near Barbaspur turn killing his helper today, police said.

While Vivek Shukla died while on his way to hospital after the mishap, Tiwari, the first IAS officer in the country under the visually and physically challenged category. His driver Shashmani Yadav also sustained injuries and they were rushed to a hospital in Jabalpur district, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) K Baburao told PTI.

The victims were on their way to Manpur area in the district in their SUV while the truck was coming from the opposite direction, he said, adding that as soon as the SUV reached Barbaspur turn, its driver honked following which the driver of the truck applied brakes.
 

"However, as it was raining the truck skidded a bit to its right and stopped but the SUV hit it from its right side," the IGP said.

The truck has been impounded and its driver has been arrested.
