Wife of an officer of the Eastern Naval Command allegedly jumped to death from the eighth floor of Naval Officers' residential building at the Naval Coastal Battery here this morning, police said.

Nikhila Bhat (24) was married to Lieutenant Commander Sudhakar Bhat, police said.

She was suffering from depression and was undergoing treatment, said inspector Sayed Mohd Illiyas of One-Town police station.

While Sudhakar is a native of Belgaum in Karnataka, Nikhila hailed from Maharashtra.

According to police, Nikhila always remained anxious about her husband's safety as he worked on a sub-marine, especially after the recent mishaps involving the navy vessels in Mumbai and other parts of the country.

The couple was married for 18 months. Police said her parents, who rushed here this evening, confirmed that she was suffering from depression, and did not express any suspicion about the husband.

No suicide note was found.
