Police today said they have arrested 14 members of a criminal gang that was involved in stealing oil from railway wagons in the city.
High Speed Diesel (HSD) worth Rs 6.76 lakh were recovered from them, police said.
All of them, including the gang's kingpin Vittanala Satyanaraya alias Sattibabu, were apprehended on the intervening night of June 21 and 22, Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Amit Garg told reporters here.
However, three other members of the gang are still at large, he said.
The accused had committed oil thefts on several occasions in Scindia and Malkapuram areas in the city, Garg said.
Police swung into action and formed a special team after CISF personnel posted at the Indian Oil terminal here caught two trucks laden with stolen oil recently and the company's officials lodged a complaint with Malkapuram police.
