The Visakhapatnam rural police seized more than 600 kg ganja, worth about Rs 40 lakh in two separate incidents in the district, during routine police patrolling, in the wee hours of today, sources said.
In the first case, the Kothakota police patrol seized more than 550 kg of ganja from a vehicle near Marrivalasa area. However, the drug peddlers in the vehicle fled from the spot after noticing the patrol.
The police said that the vehicle was heading towards Narsipatnam from Marrivalasa.
Similarly, a Rolugunta police team arrested a drug peddler called Tadi Eswar Rao (32) of BB Patnam area and seized 50 kg of dry ganja from him when he was trying to transport it.
The police said that it had registered cases under Section 20(B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigations are on.
