The city will host the third BRICS Urbanisation Forum meet from Wednesday with the district administration and police geared up for its smooth conduct.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the three-day meet where Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu and others are likely to be present.
Visakhapatnam Joint Commissioner of Police A S Khan said security has been beefed up for the meet which would be attended by around 70 delegates from Brazil, China, Russia and South Africa and over 230 from India.
Around 2,000 policemen drawn from various battalions, including the elite forces such as Octopus, Greyhounds and AP Special Police, have been deployed to ensure proper security for the event, Khan told reporters yesterday.
For personal security of the delegates, the City Security Wing has been strengthened by drawing personnel from the 13 districts in the state, police said.
The Navy, Coast Guard and Coastal Security Police (CSP) will augment the security arrangements and take care of any threats from the seaside.
