VMC to construct cricket stadium for hosting matches

The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) is constructing a cricket stadium for hosting national and international matches in the city.

Talking to newspersons here, Manish Bhardwaj Vadodara Municipal commissioner said the work on construction of one indoor stadium and outdoor stadium is almost over and now we will build a cricket stadium at a cost of Rs 100 crores on 50 acres of land in the city.

He was speaking yesterday after presenting the annual draft civic budget of Rs 3177.29 crores to Dr Hitendra Patel, Chairman of the standing committee of VMC for the 2014-15 fiscal.

The civic body will get this land after approval to implement of 26 town planning schemes (TP Schemes) in the city under which 40 per cent of land is reserved for causes of carrying out developmental works in the city, said Bhardwaj.
 

VMC will build this cricket stadium on its own and not with the help of Baroda cricket association (BCA), he said.

Bhardwaj claimed that VMC will be fist civic body to construct of three stadiums.
