VO Chidambaranar Port handles record wheat, other commodities

VO Chidambaranar Port, one of the 12 major ports in the country, has created records in handling wheat imports, copper slag and sulphur, the government said today.

"VO Chidambaranar Port Trust created new record by handling 14,590 tonnes of wheat import on August 5, 2016 from the vessel MV Dream Ocean at VI Berth, surpassing the previous record of 12,000 tonnes handled from the vessel MV Lefkes on July 10, 2015," Ministry of Shipping said in a statement today.

Aspinwall & Co Ltd is the Vessel Agent and Inter Ocean Shipping Pvt Ltd is the Stevedoring Agent, it said.

The statement said the port also created a new record by handling 22,055 tonnes of copper slag on August 9, 2016 from the vessel MV Ata-M surpassing the previous record of 10,815 tonnes handled from the vessel MV Oriente Prime on July 8, 2007.
 

"The Port created another new record by handling 15,735 tonnes of sulphur on August 18 from the vessel MV Ken Moonys surpassing the previous record of 12,157 tonnes handled from the vessel MV Maratha Prestige on September 7, 2011, " the statement said.

It added that the Port is continuously striving to achieve improvement in performance and productivity in order to attract more volume of traffic through it.
