Voluntary organisations have played a vital role in eradicating polio from the country, Union HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju said today.
Speaking after administering polio drops to children at the Rajiv Gruhakalpa Community Hall in Kakinada, he said it is the duty of parents to ensure that their children are administered polio drops.
"The last case of polio was reported from India in 2011 after which the World Health Organisation (WHO) removed India's name from the list of polio-affected countries in 2012," he said.
East Godavari District Collector Neetu Kumari Prasad said over 544 booths have been set up at places like railway stations and bus stations to administer polio drops.
