Volvo bus fleet in HRTC touches 100 mark

The number of Volvo buses with the Himachal Road Transport Corporation has reached upto 100, while the strength of the regular bus fleet has increased from 1,600 to 3,100 in the past years, state Transport Minister G S Bali said today.

Flagging off the Palampur-Chandigarh and Palampur- Delhi Volvo bus services from here, Bali said that Himachal Pradesh would soon become the first state in the country to ply electric buses on the Manali-Rohtang route and later these buses would also be introduced in other areas to reduce air pollution.

He said that due to various steps taken by the corporation, its revenue has increased by Rs 8 crore this year and the bus services are being improved with bus stands equipped with better facilities.
 

The minister said that the Palampur-Chandigarh Volvo bus would start in the morning and reach to Himachal Bhawan in Chandigarh to facilitate return for the people coming to PGI on the same day.
