Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today asked people to vote for Congress to ensure continuity in the development agenda and said the party would try to double Delhi's GDP and per capita income of citizens in the next five years if it retained power.

"The congress never makes hollow promises. It has been keeping its words. We don't treat people as our vote bank. We strive hard to realise the aspirations of people," she said at an election rally at Kalyanpuri area in East Delhi.

Talking about sound economic situation in the city, she said, "We would try to double the GDP and per capita income in the next five years."

Comparing her government's achievement with that of BJP regime from 1993 to 1998, Dikshit said people of Delhi were burdened with various problems during the BJP rule.

"Congress government during its 15 years' tenure took Delhi to the new heights. Congress knows how to govern and accomplish the projects in a planned manner," she said.

Dikshit addressed nine public meetings in various localities in East Delhi.

"Delhi has become the best place to live in and the most favoured tourist destination. It can boast of modern and advanced infrastructure. Delhi was the first city to implement the food security programme and the direct cash transfer scheme," she said.

Talking about transport infrastructure, she said if voted to power, Congress government would expeditiously implement the proposed Mono rail project.

"The then BJP government had put the Metro project in cold storage whereas the Congress government revived it to make it a reality," she said.
