Voters in Punjab go up by 9.92 lakh in a year

With projected population in Punjab at 2.84 crore, total electors in Punjab are 1,84,26,262 as on January 1, 2013 comprising 97,11,487 males, 87,14,538 females and 237 others voters, an official release here.

"This is an increase of 9,92,495 over last year's electorate and an increase of 7,50,397 over the draft published on October 1, 2012," it said.

The final publication of the photo electoral roll took place today across the state, said Punjab, Chief Electoral Officer, Kusumjit Sidhu in the meeting with political parties here.

The gender ratio of the state as per census is 893 whereas the roll shows a gender ratio of 897, release said.

 

The present roll has 4,48,901 voters in the age group of 18-19 which is 1.58 per cent of the total eligible population, it said.

It further said that 95.80 per cent of the eligible population stands registered as voters.

A special campaign is being launched from January 6 to 25 for registration of young voters, it said.

Only 87 NRIs have enrolled themselves as voters, it added.
