The octogenarian leader said the source of this allegation was a party functionary who had served for a while as his personal secretary when he was Chief Minister.

Achuthanandan also said his views on the matter were not heard before the report was drawn up by CPI(M) Lok Sabha member P Karunakaran, who was entrusted with the job by the party state committee.

The report, which was recently discussed by the CPI(M) state committee, had accused Achuthanandan of having made some concerted moves to strengthen the case against Vijayan, pertaining to alleged corruption in awarding a renovation contract to Canadian company SNC Lavalin when he was power minister in the 1990s.

Though there had been reports that the state committee, controlled by Vijayan, had referred the matter to the Central Committee for follow up action, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat had denied having receiving such a document.
