For the first time in Haryana, Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system, wherein a voter will be able to see a printout of the symbol of the candidate whom he has voted, would be used in the October 15 Haryana Assembly polls.

VVPAT would be used in six out of a total of 90 assembly seats, Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad said.

The constituencies are Thanesar (Kurukshetra), Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak and Gurgaon.

The VVPAT is a paper slip which will come out of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) once a voter casts his vote, showing which symbol and candidate the vote has been cast for.

The slip will be automatically dropped in a sealed box attached to EVM for use by the EC.
