A special CBI court here today turned down an anticipatory bail plea of an accused in the multi-crore Vyapam scam.

CBI judge J P Singh dismissed the pre-arrest bail plea of Harendra Singh, 28, an accused in the rigging of police recruitment test conducted by the MP Professional Examination Board, popularly known as 'Vyapam' (Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal).

"Investigations are underway in the case. Looking at the seriousness, prosecution's objection.. the benefit of bail is not proper for the accused," the judge said.

Harendra Singh, who hails from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, had applied for the police constable's job in 2013.

To write the recruitment test, he used a proxy, one Vasudev Pathak, the CBI has alleged.

Pathak was arrested while writing the test, a prosecution officer said, adding that Harendra Singh has been absconding since then.
