Oscar-winner Barry Levinson, who directed the political satire "Wag the Dog", is set to bring the TV adaptation of the hit 1997 film.

HBO is teaming up with the filmmaker to develop a half- hour scripted comedy, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Levinson will executive produce and helm the potential pilot, while Rajiv Joseph will pen the adaptation for the network.

Robert De Niro is also on board the series as executive producer along with Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh.

The 1997 movie follows a political strategist (De Niro) who hires a Hollywood producer (Dustin Hoffman) to create a fictional war scenario to distract people's attention from the president's sexual harassment scandal.
